Forward Spaces: an inclusive gathering for the infrastructure reuse field

Forward Spaces will bring over 60 project leaders, board members, and community partners of infrastructure reuse projects into both group and one-on-one conversations with thought leaders, academics, and practitioners over three days in Miami, FL.

The implementation of technology has been constant throughout modern times, influencing how we interact in the private and public realm. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the connection between science, technology, the public realm, and health has become more evident than ever. However, current concerns over issues such as privacy, access, and big data have also been on the rise.

Can technology build inclusivity and increase connections to each other? What role can technology play in public space design, engagement, management, and programming?

Key objectives of our 2022 symposium

Share knowledge and best practices gathered by the High Line Network with the larger field of infrastructure reuse projects in North America

2.

Celebrate the potential of infrastructure reuse projects by exploring the benefits and the role they play in improving cities

3.

Inspire project leaders on ways to deliver equitable benefits to their communities and cities

4.

Collaborate with field leaders and reconnect with peers

ORGANIZER

High Line Network

Presented by the High Line, the High Line Network is a group of infrastructure reuse projects—and the people who help them come to life. As cities become denser and land for traditional parks becomes more scarce, residents are finding creative ways to bring greenspace to their neighborhoods. Projects in the High Line Network transform underutilized infrastructure into new urban landscapes.

ORGANIZER PARTNER

The Underline

A founding member of the High Line Network, The Underline recently celebrated the opening of its first phase. The Underline is transforming the land below Miami’s Metrorail into a 10-mile linear park, urban trail, and public art destination.

The event will also showcase community-based and BIPOC-led organizations throughout Miami, ensuring symposium attendees invest in, learn from, and support local Miami businesses and residents.

THE VENUE

Hotel AKA Brickell

Less than a five-minute walk from The Underline, Metrorail, and the free Metromover, Hotel AKA Brickell is a tranquil, sophisticated urban retreat that’s redefining Miami stays. Overlooking Biscayne Bay and the buzzing, walkable center of Brickell, the property offers sleek guest rooms, a top-notch restaurant, and a variety of meeting spaces for small and large groups to gather.
