Assistant Commissioner of External Affairs, New York City Department of Aging

With a long and rich professional career in the government and nonprofit sectors, Edgar Jay Yu has spent over two decades supporting and advocating for some of the most vulnerable and underserved communities, including victims of crime, justice-involved youth, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. Currently, Edgar continues his career in public service as Chief of Staff and Assistant Commissioner at the New York City Department for the Aging—the nation’s largest Area Agency on Aging—which endeavors to eliminate ageism and ensure the dignity and quality-of-life of New York City’s 1.7 million older adults. He also helped launch award-winning crime prevention programs and worked with the Obama Administration on drug control policies.

Edgar currently lives in New York City and periodically returns to California for family, friends, and In-n-Out.
